At Genesis Holmes Shelter for Women, our mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for women in crisis. We are committed to offering shelter, resources, and compassionate care to help women rebuild their lives, regain their independence, and realize their full potential. Through advocacy, education, and community partnerships, we strive to break the cycle of abuse, foster healing, and inspire hope for a brighter future.
We envision a world where every individual has the resources and opportunities to overcome
crises, live with dignity, and thrive independently, fostering stronger, more resilient communities.
Genesis Holmes was born from the powerful personal journey of Willie Holmes—a resilient, compassionate man whose life was transformed by God through faith, determination, and a deep commitment to serving others. Willie’s story began in a home marked by domestic violence. His mother endured years of abuse before finally fleeing for safety, leaving Willie and his siblings behind with his father. From a young age, he faced significant adversity, later compounded by periods of homelessness and incarceration.
After serving time in prison, Willie spent four years living on the streets. His turning point came when he sought help from the Old Savannah City Mission. There, he entered a 13-month recovery program that would change his life. Through faith, hard work, and the support of the Mission, Willie not only found stability but also began helping others—eventually managing two key programs: Clean Start for men overcoming homelessness, and Fresh Start for formerly incarcerated individuals reentering society.
Motivated by his own transformation and the lack of support his mother once faced, Willie founded Genesis Holmes—a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that no one in crisis, especially families with children, is ever turned away. The organization empowers individuals to break the cycle of trauma and dependency through compassion, education, and sustainable solutions. Willie’s mission is simple yet profound: to provide the safe haven his mother never had—and that so many still need.
